HEAD GATE KEEPER (SEASONAL)
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS AND PARKS
CITY OF WORCESTER

The City of Worcester seeks applicants for a Head Gate Keeper for the Department of Public Works and Parks. Under the general direction of the Parks & Recreation Coordinator, the employee is responsible for the daily operations of the facility, supervision of Gate Keepers, and monitoring guest activities of spray parks, playgrounds, and pool facilities. The position duties involve general tasks within the City of Worcester Parks system; to include pool attendant, boat house attendant, trash cleanups, distribution of meals with the summer food program, assisting with summer special events within the City of Worcester and/or assigned to a site for the duration of the summer.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of custodial work, cleaning equipment, and shower operations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other personnel and the public
  • Ability to enforce facility rules and regulations firmly, respectfully, and impartially
  • Ability to record daily records
  • Ability to perform manual tasks requiring some physical exertion
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
  • Ability to successfully pass CORI/SORI check.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED, OR

Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job

  • One (1) year in a supervisory capacity that demonstrates directing recreation programs, sports related activities, outdoor recreational programs, or previous gatekeeper experience
  • Previous experience performing basic custodial work
  • Proven experience with planning, organizing, and supervising large groups of individuals in an outdoor environment
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Previous experience in daily recording keeping
  • Proven ability to maintain a safe environment for other and adherence to protocols and standards
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to operate canoes, paddleboats, and kayaks
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds to a height of 40 inches

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • American Red Cross First-Aid & CPR/AED Certification

STARTING SALARY: $16.00 per hour, seasonal, non-benefitted
