DIVISION OF PUBLIC HEALTH
CITY OF WORCESTER
The Worcester Division of Public Health is seeking two individuals to work in its Tobacco Control Program. Under the direct supervision of the Tobacco Coordinator, the Tobacco Compliance Intern will focus on reducing youth access to tobacco products by conducting compliance inspections and tobacco policy research. The interns may also assist with creating reports, presentations, and going with the tobacco inspector to Board of Health Meetings to present policy research. Applicants must have strong time management skills, communication skills, a willingness to learn, and a positive attitude.
The Worcester Tobacco Control Program works on tobacco prevention through enforcement of current local policies, providing technical assistance to local boards of health in writing new policies, addressing youth access and environmental tobacco smoke, as well as providing education to the community around current and emerging tobacco products. The Tobacco Compliance Intern will work to conduct annual compliance checks with the Tobacco Coordinator at 100% of establishments that sell tobacco products (including vaping products) across 5 communities; Grafton, Millbury, Shrewsbury, West Boylston, and the City of Worcester. The intern will spend his or her day working in the community with the tobacco coordinator visiting assigned store retailers.
