OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK
CITY OF WORCESTER

The City of Worcester seeks a qualified individual for the position of Principal Clerk. The incumbent must possess exemplary customer service skills in an office setting and have considerable clerical experience. This skilled individual must be able to multi-task in a fast paced environment and have the ability to prepare correspondence and provide general office support. This employee must show good judgment in making decisions concerning the laws and policies governing vital records and record keeping.

The successful candidate will have considerable knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; the ability to make arithmetical computations with speed and accuracy; the ability to lift and handle materials and equipment up to forty (40) pounds; the ability to type from clear copy at high rate of speed; the ability to maintain complex clerical records and to prepare reports; the ability to accurately collect, compile, and enter statistical data; the ability to exercise good judgment in making decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations and established policies; possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; demonstrated proficiency with personal computers; the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse populations; and the ability to work independently and in a group setting.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years customer service and/or clerical experience in an office setting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Political Science, History, Public Administration or related discipline

SALARY RANGE: $17.81 - $23.52 hourly, full-time, with an excellent benefits package.
