HOUSING INTAKE SPECIALIST
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
CITY OF WORCESTER

The City of Worcester seeks applicants for the position of Housing Intake Specialist to support the Division of Housing Development with various housing related programs funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and/or HUD. Under the direction of the Director of Housing Development, the Intake Specialist is responsible for the recruitment, communication of applicants, and the marketing and outreach of various ARPA/HUD funded housing programs. This position serves as the primary contact to guide applicants through the federal application process from initial inquiry through application approval. The Intake Specialist also assists in special initiatives undertaken by the Housing Development Division as they may relate to the administration, promotion, and monitoring of ARPA and HUD funding.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of common policies, practices and procedures of the department and office operations including accounting/bookkeeping; laws and regulations that are pertinent to position functions
  • Knowledge of assessment market information
  • Knowledgeable of municipal budgeting standard operating practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite and the internet
  • Strong customer service skills; ability to interact effectively with disgruntled members of the public, local officials and department personnel
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a detailed and organized manner
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with diverse populations, organizations, and interests
  • Ability to prepare detailed, accurate reports
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Public Administration, Management, Public Policy, Public Health, or a related field PLUS three (3) years of related experience, which includes marketing and/or outreach, and customer service responsibilities in an office setting; OR,
    • An Associate’s Degree in Business/Public Administration, Management, Public Policy, Public Health, or a related field PLUS five (5) years of related experience, which includes marketing and/or outreach, and customer service responsibilities in an office setting will be considered in lieu of the above mentioned requirements.
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five (5) years of related experience which includes marketing and/or outreach, and customer service responsibilities in an office setting

SALARY RANGE: $28.59 - $34.85 per hour, full-time, with an excellent benefits package.
