PRINCIPAL GRANTS ACQUISITION
ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE
CITY OF WORCESTER

The City of Worcester seeks applicants for Principal Grants Acquisition to assist the Administration and Finance Department, Budget Division, in identifying grant opportunities for various City departments. Under the supervision of the Grants Compliance Manager, the employee is responsible for working with City staff to develop well-written grant proposals, maintaining and analyzing data and information to include in grant proposals, as well as submitting grant proposals on behalf of City departments. Other responsibilities include developing sub-recipient contracts, working with departments to complete and submit required reports to granting agencies, preparing various written reports to government bodies to inform them of specific grant opportunities, and performing other tasks as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of grant opportunities and grant solicitation processes;
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations governing state and federal grant funds;
  • Knowledge of grants administration;
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with grant reports and documentation generation;
  • Strong organization skills, with a focus on being detailed oriented;
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills;
  • Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written correspondence;
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and set priorities for meeting internal and external deadlines;
  • Ability to respond to changes in priorities based on workflow and deadlines;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with state, local and federal agencies;

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Public Administration, Communications, English, or related field;
  • Three (3) years of experience in grant writing for a government, higher education, or non-profit agency; OR,
    • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered in lieu of the above requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Business/Public Administration, Communications, English, or related field.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in grant writing for a government, higher education, or non-profit agency.
  • Prior work experience in municipal grant writing.
  • Familiarity with grants administration.

SALARY RANGE: $61,508 - $73,509 annually, full-time, exempt, with an excellent benefits package.
