JUNIOR CIVIL ENGINEER, GR 3
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS & PARKS
CITY OF WORCESTER

The City of Worcester, Department of Public Works & Parks is seeking applicants for entry-level Civil Engineer positions in the Division of Engineering, and Water/Sewer Operations. The Jr. Civil Engineers will perform technical and professional engineering work as required.

The Junior Civil Engineers will work in both the office and in the field on a variety of engineering assignments. Engineers assigned to the Engineering Division will perform tasks associated with roadway design, traffic, sanitary, storm water, and sewer. Other responsibilities may include reviewing plans and applications for construction projects and as assigned inspect public and private construction projects. Engineers assigned to the Water/Sewer Division will perform tasks associated with construction, repair and rehabilitation of the City’s water distribution system. Other responsibilities include reviewing plans and applications for construction projects and assignments to conduct resident engineering oversight on public and private construction projects.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Sanitary Engineering
  • Experience conducting engineering research
  • Strong analysis and design skills
  • Skill in making engineering computations
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience/skill with GIS
  • Current E.I.T. certification
  • Working knowledge of construction materials
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is preferred for positions in the Engineering Division
  • Working knowledge of GPS systems is preferred for positions in the Water/Sewer Division
  • Working knowledge of basic hydraulics as it applies to drinking water distribution and plumbing system is preferred for positions in the Water/Sewer Division

SALARY RANGE: $30.87 - $37.62 per hour, full-time, with an excellent benefits package including retirement pension. Additional annual stipend of $1,000 for Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. Additional stipends are available for current EIT, SIT, RLS and/or PE certifications, and Drinking Water Operator licenses.
