MASSHIRE CAREER CENTER
CITY OF WORCESTER

The City of Worcester seeks applicants for the position of Head Clerk to provide quality customer service and general administrative support to the MassHire Central Career Center. Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Head Clerk is responsible for answering the Career Center’s main telephone line; greeting, scheduling, and providing guidance on resources and programs offered at Career Center to a diverse population of customers; organizing, preparing and compiling the necessary paperwork and supplies for workshops and orientations; and facilitating new customer orientations. The Head Clerk is also responsible for data entry, transcribing meeting minutes, taking inventory of supplies, filing, mailings, faxing, photocopying, and other general administrative duties in an office setting. This position may be required to provide coverage for other operational areas as needed.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience providing excellent customer service.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of virtual web-based conferencing tools such as WebEx and Zoom.
  • Ability to multi-task in order to complete assignments, in a detailed, timely and organized manner, in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to maintain sensitive, confidential information.
  • Ability to interact in a tactful manner and maintain professionalism under all circumstances.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication & working relationships with diverse groups.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Process driven; quickly evaluates and prioritizes tasks, as well as, identifies and resolves potential challenges and risks.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of customer service and/or clerical experience in a professional office setting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid MA driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or related field
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, labor market research tools, and job search posting boards

SALARY RANGE: $22.53 - $25.08 hourly, full-time, excellent benefits package.
