The City of Worcester seeks applicants for the position of Special Projects Manager. This position is responsible for the oversight and fulfillment of various programs and projects as prioritized by the City Manager. This position interacts with internal and external stakeholders, including all department and division heads, boards and commissions, local, state and federal officials, business leaders, neighborhood liaisons, special interest organizations, consultants and the non-profit community, as well as the City Manager’s executive staff.
The Special Projects Manager must able to work autonomously, including developing project timelines, budgets and support strategies. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, resourceful and cooperative. This position requires work outside the office at times and the ability to travel to events, meetings, and activities. This position will be the lead for various community taskforce initiatives on behalf of the City Manager’s Office.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
• Excellent time management skills and attention to detail;
• Ability to interpret and follow local, state, and federal regulations;
• Ability to manage multiple complex programs/projects to meet budgets/timelines;
• Ability to develop strong relationships/partnerships with diverse regional stakeholders;
• Ability to problem-solve; identify alternate solutions and communicate best practices;
• Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced work environment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Public Administration, Management, or related field;
• Three (3) years of project management experience; OR,
o An equivalent combination of education & experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the required duties of the position will be considered in lieu of the above mentioned requirements.
• Working knowledge of municipal government, funding sources, and regulations.
STARTING SALARY: $76,159 annually, full-time, exempt, with an excellent benefits package.
