WORCESTER, Mass. – The Department of Public Works & Parks (DPW&P) announced Thursday that it will begin work to rehabilitate underground sanitary sewers on Shrewsbury Street, Plum Street, and a portion of East Worcester Street on Feb. 18.
Crews will be cleaning the sewers and installing a structural liner to reinforce the existing pipe and increase its service life. Streets will remain open, but traffic and parking will be affected in certain work areas on an intermittent basis and DPW&P and the onsite contractor, Green Mountain, will work to minimize disruption. The construction duration is expected to last approximately nine months.
Planned work locations for the next two weeks follow:
These locations and schedule are subject to change. “No Parking” signs will be posted adjacent to work locations.
Between February and April, work will be confined to spot areas at particular manholes. The most noticeable work will start in late April/early May when above ground sewer bypass will be setup. Traffic will be maintained with temporary lane closures.
Residents can expect to see temporary message boards and other signage alerting roadway users that work will begin. Updates regarding the project will be posted as they become available.
