Declared Winter Parking Ban in Effect at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22

For Immediate Release: 2/22/2023 3:40 pm

WORCESTER, Mass. – City officials are preparing for a winter storm expected to bring a combination of snow and ice to the area on Wednesday night and into Thursday. In anticipation of the precipitation and treatment of roadways, a Declared Winter Parking Ban for Worcester will go into effect at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

Beginning at 5 p.m., municipal parking garages will be free of charge to any vehicle that enters until the Declared Winter Parking Ban is lifted. Residents are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to move their cars from City streets.

During the Declared Winter Parking Ban, parking is prohibited on either side of main arteries, emergency and bus routes, and streets in the downtown area critical to the flow of traffic. On all other streets, parking is only permitted on the odd numbered side of the street, unless otherwise posted.

Towing and ticketing may be enforced to keep streets clear. For questions, residents should contact Worcester 311 by dialing 3-1-1, emailing 311@worcesterma.gov, or visiting worcesterma.gov/311.

City officials urge residents to travel with caution as roads and sidewalks are expected to be slippery. Residents are advised to leave additional time for travel; stay clear of plows, sanders, and other vehicles treating the roads; and treat and clear sidewalks, driveways, and outdoor stairs and ramps to prevent them from icing over.

Residents are reminded that they have up to 10 hours from the end of a winter storm to clear the sidewalks abutting their property of any snow and ice. Residents who are able are also asked to clear fire hydrants and catch basins in their neighborhoods. Snow and ice should not be put in the street.
