City Manager Batista Appoints Paul B. Saucier as Chief of Police

WORCESTER, Mass. – City Manager Eric D. Batista announced Friday the appointment of Interim Police Chief Paul B. Saucier as Police Chief of the Worcester Police Department (WPD), effective March 1, 2025. A promotion ceremony will be held on Friday, March 14 at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall, where he will be officially sworn in.

“Since day one of Saucier’s appointment as Interim Chief, he has gone above and beyond working to make improvements within the WPD and to build a strong relationship between the Department and Worcester community,” said Batista. “He has been open to feedback and has been receptive to and embracing change. I’m pleased to make his permanent appointment to Police Chief and look forward to continuing to work together to make strides in the service of public safety and trust in Worcester.”

"I am excited to continue our shared mission of fostering a culture founded on honor, integrity, and professionalism. Both the members of our department and the community we serve deserve nothing less.”

Chief Saucier has served as Interim Chief of the WPD for the past 18 months. He has more than 30 years of service within the Department and prior to his appointment as Interim Chief, he served as Deputy Chief for nearly eight years. As a Captain, he was commander of the Operations Division, S.W.A.T. Team, and the Bureau of Investigative Services, which includes the Detective Bureau, Crime Scene Unit, Latent Print Unit, Alcohol Unit, Gang Unit, and Vice Squad.

Chief Saucier earned a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Western New England University. He is a graduate of several prestigious programs, including the FBI National Academy Session #235 and the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Unit Commander Academy Session #54, both in Quantico, VA. He also completed executive education at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, the Executive Seminar Program, and the Massachusetts Police Leadership Institute.

Additionally, he has undergone specialized training with the National Tactical Officers Association in S.W.A.T. Supervision and Command Decision Making, and he graduated with distinction from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Chief Saucier received the Academic Achievement Award and graduated with top honors from the Worcester Police Academy, Class 11/94.

Chief Saucier actively participates in the Worcester Community Connections Steering Committee and the Anti-Defamation League’s Law Enforcement Committee.

Additionally, Chief Saucier holds memberships in several professional organizations, including the FBI National Academy Associates, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Police Executive Research Forum, the Massachusetts Police Association, the Central Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, and the Massachusetts Major City Chiefs Association.
