Petition of Councilor Matthew E. Wally on behalf of Marilyn Williams request the installation of a memorial honoring PFC Ronald Williams for his service in the Vietnam War. # 8x CC October 15, 2019

Chairperson Councilor Rose read the item and recognized the Veterans’ Services Officer/Director, who discussed the person’s qualifications for the memorial.

Chairperson Councilor Rose recognized Councilor Bergman, who discussed the inability for the city to contact the petitioner to determine a location.

Chairperson Councilor Rose moved for a roll call vote to recommend the item be placed on file.

Petition of Paul Stankus, Office Manager Paul F. Cantiani Insurance Agency, request the monument at the corner of Plantation St. and Solferino St. be relocated. # 7d CC November 26, 2019

Chairperson Councilor Rose read the item and recognized the Veterans’ Services Officer/Director, who determined the memorial had previously been moved due to the fact it was hit by vehicles on multiple occasions.

Petition of Paula Carey request a memorial square be erected in the vicinity of Envelope Terrace and Nebraska St. honoring Worcester Fire Captain and World War I veteran William J. Ormond, who passed away fighting a fire at that location. # 8k CC May 25, 2021

Chairperson Councilor Rose read the item and recognized the Veterans’ Services Officer/Director, who discussed the person’s inability to qualify for a veteran memorial, as they did not pass away within the line of duty.

Chairperson Councilor Rose recognized Councilor Bergman, who discussed alternative options for honoring the person who served.

Chairperson Councilor Rose brought forth the following Chairman’s Order: Request City Manager request City Solicitor provide City Council with a report exploring comparable ways to recognize veterans who do not qualify for veterans memorials.

Chairperson Councilor Rose moved for a roll call vote to recommend the item be held.

Recommend Hold on a roll call vote of 2 Yeas and 0 Nays (King absent)

Chairman's Orders

Chairperson Councilor Rose recognized Councilor Bergman, who discussed the changes to the city’s ordinance to allow for additional individuals to qualify for memorials.
