Approval of the Minutes

Order - That the City Council Standing Committee of Urban Technologies, Innovation and Environment hereby approves the minutes of the Urban Technologies, Innovation and Environment Committee meeting of March 3, 2021.

Transmitting informational communication relative to the City of Worcester Open Data Policy. # 8.26A CM March 30, 2021

Chairperson Councilor Wally read the item and recognized the Director of Urban Innovation, who discussed the reason to create the Open Policy Data, accessible public data on the Open Data Portal and the demographics of people who access them.

Chairperson Councilor Wally recognized Councilor Toomey, who discussed the costs associated with the development and maintenance of the program, the time range of the public records in the program and how the records are transferred to the Open Data Portal.

Chairperson Councilor Wally recognized Councilor Russell, who spoke concerning the item.

Chairperson Councilor Wally moved for a roll call vote to recommend the item be filed.

Transmitting informational communication relative to a city-wide Out-of-Home Advertising plan for the city of Worcester. # 9.39A CM March 16, 2021

Chairperson Councilor Wally read the item and recognized the Director of Urban Innovation, who discussed the various features of the advertisement kiosks, the pilot program for the advertisement kiosks, the costs associated with implementation of the kiosks, challenges concerning implementing kiosks from different vendors, the process to select the vendors for the pilot program, the placements of the kiosks and concerns relative to vandalism.

Chairperson Councilor Wally recognized Councilor Russell, who discussed the Wi-Fi capabilities of the kiosks and possibilities for pedestrian interaction based on locations of the kiosks with Wi-Fi capabilities with the Direct of Urban Innovation.

Chairperson Councilor Wally recognized Councilor Toomey, who discussed whether the kiosks will have printing and charging capabilities.

Chairperson Councilor Wally moved for a roll call vote to recommend the item be filed.

Chairperson Councilor Wally read the item and recognized the Director of Energy and Asset Management, who discussed the needs for approval from the City Council in order to apply for a grant for the plan.

Chairperson Councilor Wally recognized Councilor Russell and Councilor Toomey, who both spoke concerning the item.

Chairperson Councilor Wally brought forth the following Chairman’s Resolution: That the City Council of the City of Worcester does hereby support the timeline and action items set forth by the Green Worcester Sustainability and Resilience Strategic Plan.

Chairperson Councilor Wally moved for a roll call vote to recommend the item be filed.
