Communication of the City Manager - Police Department

Transmitting informational communication relative to a report detailing the implementation and structural organization of the Body Worn Camera Program and final policy thereof. # 8.12A CM February 7, 2023

Chairperson Councilor Toomey read the item and recognized the Police Chief, who provided an overview of the implementation and structural organization of the Body Worn Camera Program.

Chairperson Councilor Toomey discussed the hiring of Redaction Analysts for the Body Worn Camera Program, how data is classified as public and non-public records, the recommendations made by the ACLU, how the public can submit concerns regarding the program to the Police Department and how the cameras are activated with the Police Chief and WPD Lieutenant.

Chairperson Councilor Toomey recognized Councilor Colorio, who discussed the review process and feasibility of updating the policies for the Body Worn Camera Program with Police Chief.

Chairperson Councilor Toomey recognized Police Captain, who discussed the rollout of the Body Worn Camera Program.

Chairperson Councilor Toomey moved for a roll call vote to recommend the item be filed.
