Approval of the Minutes

Order - That the City Council Standing Committee on Public Safety hereby approves the minutes of the Public Safety Committee meeting on May 17, 2021.

Chairperson Councilor Toomey read the item and recognized the Fire Chief, who discussed the update relative to the WFD Master Plan, which is in the process of being prepared.

Chairperson Councilor Toomey moved for a roll call vote to recommend the item be held. Recommend Hold on a roll call vote of 3 Yeas and 0 Nays

Transmitting informational communication relative to a report concerning the department’s efforts to expand the diversity of applicants to the Fire Department. # 9.9A CM May 12, 2021

Chairperson Councilor Toomey recognized the Fire Chief, who discussed outreach to other communities regarding the strategies they use to expand the diversity of applicants to the Fire Department.

Chairperson Councilor Toomey recognized Councilor Rivera, who discussed the various refugee communities who have been coming into the city that could be communicated with for potential hiring within the Fire Department.

Transmitting informational communication relative to a report outlining the costs associated with the process of becoming an accredited fire department, including information relative to registration fees. # 9.9B CM May 12, 2021

Chairperson Councilor Toomey read the item and recognized the Fire Chief, who discussed the performance indicator and evaluation process that will take place during accreditation.

Chairperson Councilor Toomey brought forth the following two Chairman’s Orders: 1) Request City Manager request Fire Chief provide City Council with a report concerning the accessibility and technical updates of the accreditation process; and 2) Request City Manager request Fire Chief provide City Council with a report concerning the timeframe of the RMS system update process.
