Approval of the Minutes

Communication of the City Manager - Fire Department

Transmitting informational communication relative to the Worcester Fire Department Master Plan. # 8.9A CM February 4, 2020

Chairperson Councilor Toomey read the item and recognized the Fire Chief, who discussed the timeline for when the Worcester Fire Department Master Plan would be completed, as well as how the Master Plan would be used to develop strategies used within the department moving forward.

Chairperson Councilor Toomey brought forth the following Chairman’s Order: Request City Manager request Fire Chief provide City Council with a report outlining the costs associated with the process of becoming an accredited fire department, including information relative to registration fees.

Chairperson Councilor Toomey moved for a roll call vote to recommend the item be held. Recommend Hold on a roll call vote of 3 Yeas and 0 Nays

Chairman's Orders

Request City Manager request Fire Chief provide City Council with a report outlining the costs associated with the process of becoming an accredited fire department, including information relative to registration fees.

Transmitting informational communication relative to the Fire Department safety protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. # 9.9A CM May 26, 2020

Chairperson Councilor Toomey read the item and recognized the Fire Chief, who discussed the number of COVID-19 cases within the Fire Department.

Chairperson Councilor Toomey recognized Councilor Rivera and Councilor Colorio, who spoke to the many operations being undertaken by the Fire Department during COVID-19.

Chairperson Councilor Toomey moved for a roll call vote to recommend the item be placed on file. Placed on file on a roll call vote of 3 Yeas and 0 Nays.

Transmitting informational communication relative to Fire Department staffing, training and the next recruit academy. # 9.9A CM January 5, 2021

Chairperson Councilor Toomey read the item and recognized the Fire Chief, who discussed the various training procedures currently taking place and potential recruit classes in the future.

Chairperson Councilor Toomey discussed ways to make the hiring process more diverse with the Fire Chief.

Chairperson Councilor Toomey recognized Councilor Rivera, who discussed involving the Fire Department within the city’s schools with the Fire Chief.

Chairperson Councilor Toomey brought forth the following Chairman’s Order: Request City Manager request Fire Chief provide City Council with a report concerning the department’s efforts to expand the diversity of applicants to the Fire Department.
