Meeting Jointly with the School Committee Standing Committee on Finance and Operations and the several representatives of the Worcester Public School Administration including Superintendent Dr. Melinda Boone and CFO Brian Allen. The Committee convened jointly in the Cafeteria at Doherty Memorial High School.

MASTER PLAN FOR RENOVATION OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Order of Mayor Joseph M. Petty and amended by Councilor Sarai Rivera and Councilor Kathleen M. Toomey - Request the Standing Committee on Education work with the counterpart standing committee of the School Committee to develop a master plan for renovation of public school buildings. Further, request the Committees provide City Council with the master plan within 90 days. Further, request the Committees consider University Park Campus School when developing the master plan for improving infrastructure. Further, request the Committees develop a plan to improve technology within the schools and find funding for these improvements.

The two Committee Chairpersons, Councilor O'Brien and School Committee Member Foley briefed those in attendance of the purpose of meeting together: to review the facilities owned and operated for public education purposes across the City and under the jurisdiction of the City and the Public Schools, the extensive renovation work completed at various facilities, additional renovation work being planned and the needs of the school system moving forward including renovations and replacement of existing facilities. Mr. Allen made the presentation (attached). Dr. Boone made brief remarks about the importance of the work under consideration. School Committee Member Novick inquired about ESCO work being done in school buildings during the Summer of 2012. Speakers: 1. Kidrick Bell, Worcester resident 2. Joe Nystrom, Worcester resident 3. Keith Scott, Worcester resident The Chairs announced, at the conclusion of the Q&A that State Treasurer Steven Grossman is scheduled to visit Worcester on February 29, 2012 to view various facilities under consideration for renovation/replacement. The View will commence from the Burncoat Senior High School, 179 Burncoat Street at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 and proceed to Nelson Place, Doherty Memorial High School and South High School.
