Mayor Petty reconvened the Tax Classification Hearing at 6:53 P.M. Mayor Petty recognized Councilor Wally, who moved to recommend for consideration Line 252 – That the Tax Rate for Fiscal Year 2020 be set at $17.52 for Residential Property and $33.62 for Commercial, Industrial and Personal Property (see Item #20a CC). Mayor Petty recognized the following speakers in regard to the Tax Classification Hearing: 1. Robert Williams, Worcester resident, spoke in favor of reclassifying a tax rate on multi-family homes 2. Mark Williams, Auburn resident, spoke in favor of reclassifying a tax rate on multi-family homes 3. Jacob Vasquez of the Chamber of Commerce, no residence given, spoke on behalf of a local business owner in favor of a lower commercial, industrial and personal property tax rate 4. Ryan Matson, Worcester resident, spoke in favor of a single tax rate 5. Because the availability of safe, secure and habitable housing will be one of Worcester's biggest challenges in the upcoming decade, request City Manager advise the incoming City Council as to whether additional housing policies will need to be implemented to minimize gentrification and to assure the availability of an adequate number of public, affordable, market-rate and elderly housing units.
