That the City Council of the City of Worcester hereby urges the Governor and the State Legislature to invest in the communities, to strengthen our economy and to improve the quality of life of Massachusetts residents by passing legislation that raises substantial new revenue while holding down increases for low and middle income individuals and families. NEW BUSINESS UNDER SUSPENSION OF RULES

19a.

COMMUNICATION - Michael V. O'Brien, City Manager, recommending that the City Council Accept with Gratitude a Donation from the College of the Holy Cross in the amount of Ten Thousand Dollars and No Cents ($10,000.00) to support the 2012 Wheels to Water Program.

Following the roll call the Mayor Petty moved to suspend the rules to take up items #19a & 19b. The Mayor read a Proclamation declaring May 1, 2012 as College of the Holy Cross Day (see #5a). A video presentation of the new Mobile Library “Libby” was played. The Mayor thanked the College of the Holy Cross, Fr. Burroughs, President of Holy Cross, and representative of the college Ed Augustus and Ellen Ryder for all they have done for this community. City Manager O'Brien stood to extend his appreciation to the College of the Holy Cross for this partnership and generous funding commitment for both the mobile library and the Wheels to Water program. Reverend Boroughs said a few words to thank the city and the community for the opportunity to help support and improve the life of this city. Resolution adopted with gratitude on a roll call vote of 9 Yeas and 0 Nays (Lukes, O'Brien absent)

O'Brien, City Manager, recommending that the City Council Accept with Gratitude a Donation from the College of the Holy Cross in the amount of Eighty Thousand Dollars and No Cents ($80,000.00) per year for a period of Five Years to support the Operation of the Mobile Public Library.
