Worcester, MA (July 5, 2017) – On Wednesday, July 5, 2017, members of the WPD Vice Squad were conducting undercover surveillance in the area of 41 May Street. The officers were there due to numerous complaints that they received with regard to heroin dealing.
At approximately 12:30 PM, officers observed a Honda Civic pull up to the curb of the May Street address. A male walked from the rear of the building and got into the Honda. The vehicle then drove off.
Officers decided to follow the Honda.
The Honda drove around the block for approximately 90 seconds and came back to 41 May Street. The officer drove past the Honda as it parked and one of the officers recognized the driver from past investigations. The driver was identified as Roberto Rivera, 40-years-old of 19 Edward Street, Worcester. The passenger exited the Honda, looked all around, and then headed to the rear of 41 May Street.
Officers believed that they had just witnessed a street level drug transaction. Officer’s s topped the Honda at Pleasant and Newbury Streets. Mr. Rivera was asked to exit the Honda. Officers could tell that Mr. Rivera had something in his mouth. Officers asked him to open his mouth. Officers could see a plastic baggie under his tongue. Officers looked harder and stated that he had a bag of heroin under his tongue. At this time Mr. Rivera put his head down and swallowed hard, he then stood straight up and said that he has nothing. Mr. Rivera was placed under arrest and Charged with Possession of Class A Substance and Tampering with an Item to be used for an Official Proceeding.
Officers proceeded back to 41 May Street to set up more surveillance. Officers were looking for the unknown male that had entered the Honda earlier. At approximately 1:10 PM, officers observed another vehicle pull up to the address. The unknown male was once again seen walking from the rear of the building. Officers observed this male approach a pickup truck and place his hand inside the cab for a brief moment. The male walked away from the truck and started to head back towards the rear of the apartment building.
Officers believed that they had now witnessed a second street level drug transaction. Officer’s stopped the unknown male before he walked into the building. The male was identified as Jeffrey Beltre-Rojas, 23-years-old of 24 Hooper Street, Worcester. A search of the man produced a cell phone and $183.00 in Cash.
Mr. Beltre-Rojas was placed under arrest and charged with 2 Counts of Distribution of Class A Substance.
The pickup truck was stopped by other officers on Oberlin and Clifton Streets. The person was identified, cooperated and will be summonsed for Possession of Class B Substance.
Both suspects will be arraigned tomorrow, July 6, 2017 at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
