Worcester, MA (May 24, 2017) – On Wednesday, May 24, 2017 members of the WPD Vice Squad were conducting surveillance in the Vernon Hill area regarding street level drug dealing. During the surveillance the officer’s attention was drawn to a Toyota RAV 4 with Connecticut license plates. This vehicle was observed pulling up to a female for a very brief moment and then driving off. The encounter happened on Fairbanks Street. The Toyota immediately drove off after a brief exchange. The female was stopped. No drugs were found but police believe she may have swallowed the evidence.
Officers now followed the Toyota. Officers observed two separate similar transactions in different parts of the city. Officers were unable to stop and question the alleged buyers as they each quickly entered homes that were nearby to them.
Officers continued to watch the Toyota. While on Jacques Avenue near King Street a male was seen approaching the Toyota for another quick exchange. The Toyota drove off. The male was stopped. The male was identified as Nicholas Laporte, 27-years-old of 31 Town Farm Road, North Brookfield. A search of Mr. Laporte resulted in the discovery of three half gram bags of heroin.
With this discovery officers now had probable cause to stop the Toyota. The vehicle was stopped by Chandler and Piedmont Streets. The operator was identified as Jose Hinojosa, 26-years-old of 6867 Marsden Street, Philadelphia, PA. Mr. Hinojosa was removed from his vehicle and searched. The vehicle was searched as well. The search produced a total of 37.22 grams of heroin. and $554.00 in cash.
Mr. Hinojosa was placed under arrest and charged with Trafficking heroin (36-99 grams), Distribution of Class A Substance, and Possession of Class A Substance with the Intent to Distribute. Mr. Hinojosa’s bail was set for $75,040.
Mr. Laporte was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Class A Substance.
Both men will be arraigned on Thursday, May 25, at the Worcester District County Courthouse.
