Worcester, MA (September 15, 2017) - On Friday, September 15, 2017, members of the WPD Vice Squad were on patrol in the lower Pleasant Street area looking for anyone that may be acting suspicious as officers address the open air drug dealing problem that is prominent for the area.
At approximately 9:54 AM, officers observed a motor vehicle with two male occupants inside driving slow on Pleasant Street and looking in all directions. The vehicle turned onto West Street and continued their behavior. Officers ran the registration plate and it came back to a nearby surrounding town. This pattern that the officers were observing is typical for people looking to make a drug purchase. Officers continued to monitor their actions.
The vehicle eventually stopped in front of 39 West Street. A male, later identified as Francisco Perez, 29-years-old of 79 Circuit Avenue, West, was standing by the curb apparently waiting for the two. Mr. Perez was seen looking in all directions prior to entering the vehicle. The vehicle went for a very short drive. The vehicle stopped on Elm Street. Mr. Perez exited the vehicle and walked away. The vehicle drove off. This pattern is once again very typical of a street level drug deal where the two parties meet up for a short meaningless drive and then part ways.
The vehicle was stopped nearby. Officers discovered that the two men possessed 4 OxyContin pills that they had just purchased from Mr. Perez. At this time the officers established probable cause to apprehend Mr. Perez. Mr. Perez was stopped by vice officers on Russell Street at Highland Street. A search of Mr. Perez produced 47 OxyContin pills and $300.00 in cash.
Mr. Perez was placed under arrest and charged with Distribution of Class B Substance, Possession of Class B Substance with the Intent to Distribute and two Counts of Committing a Drug Violation within 100’ of a Park.
Mr. Perez will be arraigned on Monday, September 18, 2017 at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
