WPD Operations Officer Investigating Car Breaks Arrest Suspect

Worcester, MA (July 25, 2017) – On Monday, July 24, 2017, at approximately 5:37 PM, Worcester Police responded to 29 Endicott Street (local 107 carpentry union) for a report of a larceny from a MV. Upon the officers arrival they met with two victims that had their vehicles broken into while attending a union meeting. Both victims stated that they had entered their vehicles and noticed that their belongings had been thrown around within the interior. Both victims stated that they had left their wallets inside their vehicles and realized that some of their credit cards were missing. One of the victims had some cash missing as well.

Prior to calling police the victims immediately cancelled their credit cards. One of the victims was told that someone had already made purchases with one of the stolen credit cards. The victim was told that the stolen card was used at Honey Farms located on Millbury Street and at Kelly Square Liquors. The victim informed the officers of the credit card use.

After taking the initial police report, the officer went to Honey Farms to check with the store security camera. The store employee showed the officer the transaction. The officer immediately identified the suspect as Andrew Gemme, 38-years-old of 37 Central Tree Road, Rutland. Mr. Gemme is well known to the officer.

The officer began to check areas where Mr. Gemme is known to frequent. After a while the officer did locate Mr. Gemme in the area of Gold Street and Madison Street. The officer approached Mr. Gemme and spoke with him. During the conversation the officer noticed that Mr. Gemme was trying to discard something to the ground. The officer discovered that the items that Mr. Gemme was discarding were credit cards belonging to the victims.

Mr. Gemme was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with 2 Counts of Breaking and Entering into a MV, 2 Counts of Larceny Under the Value of $250.00, Improper Use of a Credit Card under the Value of $250.00.

Mr. Gemme was arraigned today at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
