Worcester, MA (July 26, 2017) – On Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at approximately 8:08 PM, Worcester Police responded to 59 Providence Street, the People’s Market, for an Armed Robbery. Upon the officers arrival they met with the store Clerk. According to the clerk, two males entered the store; one of the suspects walked behind the counter and produced a handgun. The suspect placed the gun to the clerk’s side and demanded cash. The clerk opened the register drawer. At this time, the suspect struck the clerk on the side of the head with the butt of the gun and pushed him to the ground. The suspect took the cash and fled out the store.
According to the clerk, the second suspect remained at the entrance acting as the lookout. Both suspects were seen running south on Providence Street.
The first suspect was described as a black male, medium build, approximately 5’8”, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, and black pants.
The second suspect was described as either a black or Hispanic male, slim build, possibly late teens, wearing a sweater, and dark sweatpants.
Several additional police units arrived and searched the area for the two. The search produced negative results.
Worcester EMS arrived and tended to the clerk. The clerk was treated at the scene but refused to be transported to the hospital for further care.
