Worcester, MA (August 29, 2017) – On Monday, August 28, 2017, members of the Worcester Police Gang Unit were patrolling in the Main South area in an unmarked police vehicle. At approximately 6:11 PM, the officers were on Murray Avenue and turned into the parking lot of BP Gas Station located at 30 Chandler Street. As the officers turned into the lot they observed a silver Infinity exiting the lot. As the officers passed the Infinity they observed a passenger known to them as a local gang member named Bryan Diaz, 18-years-old of 6 Pattison Street.
As Mr. Diaz observed the officers he stated to the driver “go go go” in a hurried manner. The Infinity sped out of the lot and quickly turned onto Murray Avenue and then abruptly turned into the parking lot of Compare foods without the use of a turn signal.
Upon observing this infraction the officers activated their emergency light and entered the parking lot. The Infinity attempted to drive off and exit the parking lot but the officers blocked their path. Officers approaching the Infinity immediately noticed that one of the males in the back seat moving around in a panic. Fearing that this male may have a weapon or attempting to destroy contraband one of the officers went immediately towards the rear passenger and ordered him out of the car.
The male was identified as a 17-year-old juvenile. Officers recognized the other occupants as local gang members. Officers ordered the rest out of vehicle.
A search of the vehicle where the juvenile was sitting produced a loaded 9 mm semi-automatic handgun. Officers also noticed that the serial numbers to this weapon had been obliterated. A further search of the vehicle produced a sock I the area where Mr. Diaz was sitting. The sock contained 23 baggies of heroin. A search of the individuals turned up a large bag of marijuana on another 17-year-old male.
Mr. Diaz was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Class A Substance with the Intent to Distribute. The first juvenile male was placed under arrest and charged with Improper Storage of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm without an FID Card, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, Carrying a Firearm without a License and Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number. The second juvenile was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Class D substance with the Intent to Distribute.
Mr. Diaz will be arraigned today at the Worcester County District Courthouse while the two juveniles will be arraigned at the juvenile courthouse on a date yet to be determined.
