WPD Detectives Continue Investigation of Sovereign Bank Robbery

Worcester, MA (February 2, 2012) - On December 30, 2011 at approximately 4:35 PM Worcester Police responded to a hold up alarm at the Sovereign Bank located at 655 Park Avenue. Arriving officers met with bank employees. A teller, who was robbed, informed the officers that a male approached her window and handed her a note. The note stated that he had a gun and that he wanted cash. The male took the cash and fled out the bank and ran off in the direction of Stafford Street.

The suspect is described as white male, early twenties, approximately 6’-01”, thin build, 160 pounds and reddish facial hair. The male suspect was wearing a Boston Red Sox hat, blue in color with a red letter B. The suspect was also wearing a red full zip up hooded sweatshirt with a white Nike logo on the left chest area. The suspect had dark colored pants with cargo pockets on the side. Although a gun was mentioned no one observed a weapon.

The Worcester Police Detective Bureau along with the Crime Scene Unit responded and interviewed witnesses and processed the scene for evidence. Some witnesses were transported to police headquarters for detailed interviewers. Information that leads to the identification and arrest of a bank robber may be eligible to receive reward money under a program sponsored by the Massachusetts Bankers Association.
