(November 21, 2017) - On November 21 at about 4:50 AM, Worcester Police responded to an address on South St for a report of a female shot in the back. Upon arrival, officers discovered a female with a single gunshot wound to the middle of her back. Two neighbors heard the gunshot and came to assist her at the scene, where they were applying direct pressure to her wound. Officers rendered medical assistance until an ambulance responded and brought the female to the hospital. Her injuries are serious but are not expected to be life-threatening.
The responding officers called in the Detective Bureau and the Crime Scene Unit. After a brief investigation, officers developed probable cause to arrest Anthony Gomes, twenty-nine-years-old of 1 Hale St #3. At about 6:40 AM, officers saw Mr. Gomes driving his vehicle at the intersection of Grafton St and Hamilton St. Officers conducted a felony motor vehicle stop, removed Mr. Gomes from the vehicle, and placed him under arrest. He is charged with Armed Assault to Murder, and will be arraigned in Worcester District Court today.
