Worcester, MA (September 1, 2010) - On Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at approximately 10:50 AM Worcester Police respond to 51 Union Street for a report of a stabbing which just occurred. Upon the officers' arrival they met the victim at the Lutheran Social Services. The victim is a 42 year old Worcester resident who had received a single stab wound to her upper back area near her neck as she was walking to classes with her boyfriend. According to the victim, her boyfriend, Martin Sims, 32 years old of Worcester was walking behind her as they were heading to a class when she suddenly felt a stinging sensation to her back. She then realized that Sims had just stabbed her; he then fled the area on foot.
The victim was transported to UMass Hospital (university campus) and treated for her wound. She was then discharged.
Responding officers broadcasted the name and description of the suspect and at approximately 11:45 AM officers observed Mr. Sims walking in the area of 880 Main Street. He was quickly apprehended and placed under arrest and charged with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. Additional charges may be pending as the investigation continues with interviews of witnesses.
Mr. Sims will be arraigned at the Worcester County Courthouse on Wednesday, September 1, 2010.
