Worcester, MA (August 24, 2010) - On Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at approximately 12:49 PM Worcester Police responded to 21 Fairfax Road for a report of a female shot in a motor vehicle. Upon their arrival, the officers observed a 21 year old Worcester female suffering from a single gunshot wound to the neck; the woman was found in the driver's seat of the vehicle. The victim is currently in surgery listed in critical condition.
According to witness accounts, a black male was seen fleeing from the area on foot. At this time several Worcester Police officers conducted an extensive search of the neighborhood. In addition, the Massachusetts State Police responded with K-9 units and they assisted in the search as well.
Several witnesses were transported to the police station for interviews. The Worcester Police Crime Scene Unit is processing evidence at the scene. The victim's vehicle was transported to the police station for processing.
This investigation is its early stages; there is no motive established at this time. Investigators are canvassing the neighborhood, interviewing witnesses and processing evidence as they attempt to cultivate suspect information.
