Worcester, MA (March 18, 2010) - On March 17, 2010 at approximately 1:40 PM Worcester Police responded to the area of 46 Gibbs Street for a report of a pedestrian being pinned by a car against a concrete wall. Upon the officers arrival the 23 year old female victim was in the process of being transported to U-Mass hospital with a possible hip fracture. The woman was alert during this incident.
The Worcester Police Traffic Division responded as well, the traffic officers investigating determined that the victim was standing behind a 1986 Mercedes Benz, which was parked, talking to a male while the victims 2 year old son was inside the vehicle playing. During their conversation the vehicle began to roll back towards the two. At this time the male jumped into the vehicle by the passenger side and reached over and began to apply pressure to the brake pedal by using his hand. Meanwhile the female victim jumped up onto the trunk of the moving vehicle, the vehicle continued in reverse, striking a parked car, driving over a curb and finally coming to a stop when it struck the concrete wall. Just prior to impact the victim attempted to jump off the trunk but was pinned between the car and the wall. Several people from nearby apartments came to the aid of the victim and were able to push the car off of her.
The 2 year old child was unhurt as well as the male who attempted to stop the vehicle. The child was taken temporarily by DSS workers; this incident continues to be under investigation.
