Worcester, MA (January 13, 2012) - On January 13, 2012, at approximately 1:00 AM Worcester Police responded to the Sunoco Gas Station located at 1099 Grafton Street for a report of an armed robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned that a female clerk had been robbed by a masked male suspect at knife point. The suspect pushed the clerk to the counter and demanded that she open the cash register. Then the suspect ripped the money drawer out of the cash register and fled with it out the front door. Witnesses told police that they saw the masked suspect heading toward Sunderland Road.
The Massachusetts State Police K-9 Unit was called in to assist with the investigation. A tracking dog led officers to a Grafton Street apartment building. When police arrived at the apartment building they saw a male who matched the suspect’s description entering a taxi cab. The suspect was identified as Robert Kyle, 32 years old of 21 Blueberry Hill, Webster. Kyle told police he was leaving his girlfriend’s apartment.
Police followed a trail of loose change leading into the apartment building. An occupant allowed police to enter and search the dwelling. During the search, police found cash on the dinning room table. In the laundry room, police recovered additional evidence hidden under a blanket. Police also seized a knife.
Kyle was taken into custody and charged with Armed Robbery and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. Kyle will be arraigned today at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
