Worcester, MA (April 1, 2017) - On Friday, March 31, 2017 at approximately 6:00 PM, members of the WPD Vice Squad were conducting surveillance in the Price Chopper parking lot located at 221 Park Avenue. At approximately 6:20 PM, one officer observed a brown Ford Ranger pull in to the parking lot. There were two occupants inside the truck. The operator, later identified as Coy Murzycki, 43-years-old of 67 Waite Street, Leicester, began using his cellphone. The officer ran the license plate. The officer learned that the registered owner had prior drug violations. With this information, along with the fact that the two had yet to exit the truck and enter the store, gave suspicion to the officer about what their intent was while parked in the lot.
At approximately 6:35 PM, the officer observed a grey Ford Explorer enter the parking lot and parked side by side to the Ford Ranger. The officer observed a passenger in the Explorer exchange something with Mr. Murzycki. After approximately 30 seconds after arriving the Explorer drove off. The Ford Ranger drove off as well.
Undercover vice officers stationed nearby initiated a stop of the Ranger in front of 10 Institute Road. Mr. Murzycki was removed from the vehicle. A search of Mr. Murzycki produced negative results. A search of the driver’s seat produced a large chunk of crack cocaine. Mr. Murzycki was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Class B Substance.
The passenger was identified and searched. The search produced negative results. The passenger was free to go and allowed to take possession of the Ford Ranger.
Mr. Murzycki will be arraigned at the Worcester County District Courthouse on Monday, April 3, 2017.
Vice officers will, periodically, conduct undercover surveillance in the immediate area of the price Chopper parking lot in a continued effort to combat open air street level drug dealing.
