Worcester, MA (November 28, 2017) - On Friday, November 24, 2017, WPD Vice Squad received a call from Genry De La Cruz, 19-years-old of 575 South Union Street, Lawrence. Mr. De La Cruz wanted to speak with an officer for the purpose of retrieving some evidentiary items that was seized from his apartment located at 1443 Main Street, Apt. 3, Worcester. Mr. De La Cruz was the target of a drug investigation in August 2017. As a result of the investigation a search warrant for the premises was obtained and subsequently executed on September 6, 2017. Drug investigators arrested one male at the scene and recovered evidence from within the apartment. Mr. De La Cruz was not present at the time that the warrant was executed.
On Monday, November 27, 2017, through a series of phone calls, a vice officer arranged to meet Mr. De La Cruz at the Worcester Police Department Lobby. Upon his arrival vice officers were waiting and Mr. De La Cruz was immediately recognized as the man that they observed selling heroin to an undercover officer.
Mr. De La Cruz was placed under arrest based on the past investigation and charged with use of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition without an FID Card, 3 Counts of Distribution of Class A Substance, and Trafficking in Heroin (37-99 grams).

Vice Officers Make Trafficking Arrest after Receiving Text-A-Tip Information
Worcester, MA (September 6, 2017) – On September 6, 2017, members of the WPD Vice Squad obtained a search warrant for 1443 Main Street, apartment #3. The search warrant was the result of an investigation conducted by vice officers after receiving specific information from the WPD Text-A-Tip anonymous web site. Officers received information stating that a young Hispanic male, approximately 20-years-old, thin, approximately 5’10” tall and 150 to 160 pounds, was selling heroin in the Henshaw, Bauer Street area of Webster Square.
During the investigation, undercover officers called the suspect and purchased heroin from the male that fit the description provided above. Several purchases were made during the month of August.
On this day, several officers set up surveillance outside the 1443 Main Street address. Meanwhile, one of the vice officers that had previously purchased heroin from the suspect before called him to make another buy. After placing the call, officers observed the male leaving the building within a short amount of time.
The suspect met up with the officer and sold him some heroin. At this time other officers closed in to apprehend the suspect. The suspect noticed the officers and attempted to flee. A brief foot chase ensued and the suspect was apprehended. The suspect resisted arrest and struggled with the officers but was subsequently subdued and placed in handcuffs.
At approximately 1:00 PM officers executed the search warrant. Officers discovered that the apartment door was left unlocked. Entry was gained and the apartment was found to be unoccupied. The suspect, identified as Juan Gutierrez, 19-years-old of 70 Knox Street, Lawrence, was brought back to the apartment while the search was underway.
The search produced a box that contained one large bag of heroin as well as 50 smaller individual packaged bags of heroin which weighed a total of 44.9 grams. The search also produced a .22 caliber single shot handgun along with three cartridges of .22 ammunition, $1,150 in cash, packaging materials, a scale and other drug paraphernalia.
Mr. Gutierrez was charged with Trafficking in Heroin (36-99 grams), Distribution of Class A Substance, Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm without a License, Possession of Ammunition without an FID and Resisting Arrest.
All items listed were seized as evidence. Mr. Gutierrez will be arraigned on Thursday, September 7, 2016 at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
