Worcester, MA (August 9, 2013) - On Friday, August 9, 2013 at approximately 7:08 AM Worcester Police were called to the area of 22-24 Harlem Street for a report of a serious car accident. Upon arrival, police found a 2003 Suzuki SUV flipped over on the lawn of 24 Harlem Street.  There was also damage to the front of the dwelling located at 24 Harlem Street and to the property of 22 Harlem Street.

There were three occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash.  The driver was removed from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life and was unconscious.  The driver was rushed to a local hospital and is currently listed in critical condition.  The front seat passenger was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.  The passenger in the back seat of the vehicle left the scene prior to police arrival.  There were no other injuries reported.

The Accident Reconstruction Unit was called in to investigate.  The preliminary investigation reveals that the driver lost control of the vehicle traveling west on Harlem Street (one-way).   The vehicle hit the front porch of 22 Harlem Street along with a parked car in the driveway.  The vehicle went on to hit a wooden fence and then crashed into the dwelling of 24 Harlem Street.  When the vehicle crashed into the dwelling, it flipped over onto the driver side.

The SUV was towed back to Worcester Police Headquarters and will undergo an extensive mechanical evaluation.

Officers are interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence.

The investigation is active.  More information will be released when it becomes available.
