Update to Mobile Gas Station Armed Robbery

Worcester, MA, October 5, 2017- Investigators have been working on obtaining the identity of the suspect that committed the armed robbery at the Mobile Gas Station located at 635 Chandler Street Sunday evening. During the course of this investigation the suspect was identified as Todd Hickey, 46-years-old of 53 Valley Street, Apt. 1-R, Spencer.

As a result of the investigation, information obtained during interviews, and evidence collected at the scene, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Mr. Hickey for Armed Robbery while Masked and Unlawfully Carrying a Firearm.

On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at approximately 3:05 PM, a Massachusetts State Trooper, working out of the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Team, working in partnership with Worcester Detectives, made contact with Mr. Hickey in the area of 1001 Main Street. The trooper called out and several Worcester Detectives responded to the location. Mr. Hickey was placed under arrest by the trooper. Mr. Hickey was transported to police headquarters for questioning.

Mr. Hickey will be arraigned today at the Worcester County District Courthouse.

On Sunday, October 1, 2017, at approximately 9:08 PM, Worcester Police responded to 635 Chandler Street, the Mobil Gas Station, for a report of an armed robbery. Responding officers were informed that the male robbed the store with a gun and fled the area on foot.

Several police officers responded to the scene. Upon their arrival some met with the caller/victim while others fanned out and searched for the suspect.

According to the victim, at approximately 9:00 PM a male walked in, approached the counter and displayed a handgun. The male demanded money. The male took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the store.

The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 5’5” tall; thin build, possibly mid-twenties in age, wearing all dark clothing.

There were no injuries reported.

Officers searched the area with the assistance of a K-9 unit. The search did not locate the suspect; however, the K-9 did locate some evidence that was tied to the robbery.

WPD detectives were called to the scene while members of the Crime Scene Unit arrived and processed evidence.

There is minimum suspect information at this time.
