Update on Woman Killed when Struck by WRTA Bus

Worcester, MA (October 11, 2012) -  On Friday, September 28, 2012 at approximately 8:53 PM Worcester Police responded to Sagamore and Grove Streets for a report of a pedestrian struck by a WRTA bus. Upon police arrival they came upon a female victim lying in the road. Worcester EMS arrived at the scene and treated the woman. The woman was transported to a nearby hospital and was pronounced deceased at approximately 9:33 PM. She was subsequently identified as 62 year old Linda Sneed of Worcester.

The bus and the operator were on scene when police arrived. Officers interviewed the driver. The Worcester Police Accident reconstruction Team responded and investigated this incident.

The operator of the bus has been identified as Edward Rossi, Jr., 70 years old of Shrewsbury. Mr. Rossi was issued citations for Motor Vehicle Homicide, Operating a Motor Vehicle so as to Endanger and Failure to Use Care in Turning.

The bus that Mr. Rossi was operating is a 2012 Gilli, model G30D. The Accident Reconstruction Team inspected the vehicle and found it to be in good working order. The bus is owned by the Worcester Regional Transit Authority.

A court date for Mr. Rossi is pending and has yet to be determined.
