Worcester, MA (June 30, 2011) - On Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at approximately 3:35 PM Worcester Police responded to the area of 687 Main Street for a report of an armed robbery. Upon the officers' arrival they met with the 47 year old male victim. According to the victim, he was walking on Main Street when he observed a male inside his vehicle which was parked at the corner of Sycamore and Main Streets. The victim approached the man that was in his vehicle but was warned of his approach by a possible lookout. The male in the car exited holding the car stereo in his hand and began to run south on Main Street. The victim gave chase and quickly caught up to the suspect at Main and Charlton Street. The victim demanded his car radio back. At that time a small blue vehicle pulled up with two people in the car; both exited the vehicle. The driver of the small car was a male and the passenger was a female. The male was holding a glass bottle which he smashed over the victims head while the female started beating the victim with a golf club. At this point the male who took the radio also began to attack the victim. During the beating the female took the victim’s wallet and cell phone. They then entered the small blue vehicle and drove off. The victim believes that there may have been two other men in the immediate area that also punched him as he was being attacked by the initial three. The victim was able to memorize the license plate to the small blue vehicle as it drove off. The victim was not seriously injured, however he did receive multiple bruises and contusions as a result of the beating.
Worcester Police Detectives took over the case and began an investigation. The victim was interviewed by detectives. He eventually was shown two photo arrays that the detectives were able to put together based on the information obtained from the vehicle’s license plate. As a result, the driver and owner of the suspect vehicle and the female passenger were identified as the suspects involved. The driver and owner of the vehicle is Rafael Rosado, 25 years old of 7 Vinson Street, Worcester and the female passenger is Junari Santiago-Hernandez, 17 years old of 7 Vinson Street, Worcester.
On June 29, 2011 Worcester Police Detectives were able to locate and arrest the two. They were both charged with Assault and Battery With a Dangerous Weapon and Armed Robbery. The two suspects were arraigned at the Worcester County District Courthouse yesterday afternoon. Detectives continue to investigate this case for the identity of the person who took the radio out of the victim’s vehicle as well as the two other possible male suspects who allegedly attacked the victim during the initial beating.
