Worcester, MA (March 27, 2017) - On Monday, April 27, 2017 at approximately 3:18 PM, Worcester Police responded to the area of 120 Hamilton Street for a report of two pedestrians that were struck by a commercial van. Upon the officers arrival they observed two teenagers, one 15-years-old, the other 16-years-old, suffering from leg and back trauma.
Members of the Worcester Fire Department and Worcester EMS arrived and provided emergency medical care at the scene prior to being transported to a nearby hospital. At this time the two teens are listed in stable condition.
Due to the severity of the accident the Worcester Police Accident Reconstruction Team was called out to the scene to take over the investigation.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the two teens were attempting to cross Hamilton Street from the south side heading towards the north. As the two began to cross, a motor vehicle traveling on Hamilton Street in the eastbound lane stopped and signaled the headlights to allow the teens to pass. At the same time, a 2012 Ford Econoline Van, owned by Phoenix Communications, turned out onto Hamilton Street from Pilgrim Avenue. The van was traveling in the second eastbound lane when it struck the teens.
The operator of the van was identified as Devin O’Leary, 29-years-old of 30 Potter Hill, Grafton. Mr. O’Leary was placed under arrest for an outstanding arrest warrant. The warrant was out of the Waltham District Court.
The van received a commercial inspection at the scene and then released back to the company.
This investigation is in the early stages, there are no citations issued at this time. Additional charges may be pending upon completion of the investigation.
