Worcester, MA (April 1, 2013) - On Saturday, March 30, 2013 at approximately 2:45 AM, Worcester Police responded to a Cottage Street home with regard to a breaking and entering in progress. The first officer arriving at the scene observed three suspects exit the boarded up vacant home. The suspects observed the officer and split up; one walking behind the home while two others walked off on Cottage Street, heading towards West Street.
Police were able to catch up to the two on Cottage Street but lost contact with the third suspect after a significant foot chase. The two male suspects were identified as Jerry Cartagena, 21-years-old of 20 Wall Street, Worcester and Corey Sanchez, 19-years-old of 188 A Canterbury Street, Worcester.
Police searched the home and discovered damage to a side door lock and door frame. A utility knife was located at the base of the side door staircase. Near the suspects police located a pair of wire shears/cutters.
The two suspects were charged with Trespassing, Possession of Burglarious Instruments and Breaking and Entering with the Intent to Commit a Crime.
Mr. Sanchez and Mr. Cartagena were arraigned today at the Worcester County District Courthouse. The two men were released on $40.00 cash bail later in the morning.
