Worcester, MA (April 17, 2013) - On Wednesday, April, 17, 2013 Worcester Police were called to the area of Perry Avenue and Endicott Street for a report shots fired. Upon arrival, police talked to several people about an altercation that happened in the area a short time ago. Police were given a description of the suspect and conducted a canvas of the area.
Police located an individual in the vicinity who was later identified as 31-year-old Amir Brown-Simmons of Worcester. Mr. Brown-Simmons matched the description of the suspect given to police. When police confronted Mr. Brown-Simmons he began to flee and grabbed for a gun in his waist band. While attempting to flee from police, Mr. Brown-Simmons slipped and fell to the ground. Mr. Brown-Simmons began punching the officers. The officers struggled to attempt to place Mr. Brown- Simmons under arrest. Mr. Brown-Simmons then began to run from police. The officers ordered him to stop resisting arrest. Mr. Brown-Simmons then turned and began to attack officers. One officer injured his hand while the other injured his leg. The impact of the punches that the officers sustained caused one of the officer’s eye glasses to break on his face. Additional units arrived on scene. Mr. Brown-Simmons was placed under arrest.
The two officers were transported to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries.
Police located the firearm that Mr. Brown-Simmons was carrying during the incident.
Amir Brown-Simmons of 114 Endicott Street, Worcester was charged with two counts of Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Use of a Firearm in a Felony, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, and two counts of Willful Destruction of Property.
