Worcester, MA (July 31, 2017) – On Friday, July 28, 2017, at approximately 12:09 PM, Worcester Police responded to the area of 129 Water Street to assist Worcester WMS for a male that was laid out behind Widoff’s Bakery. Arriving officers were told that there may have been a physical altercation between the male against several other males.
Upon the officers arrival they met with the property owner and the victim. The property owner noticed the man and called police. The victim, a 48-year-old male, address unknown (homeless), was dazed and confused. The victim was able to explain that he was beaten and robbed. The victim was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital.
Due to the severity of the incident, the Detective Bureau was called to take over the investigation. Detectives went to the hospital to speak with the victim. Upon arrival detectives were told that the victim was in and out of consciousness, intubated and unable to speak. The victim was also on his way for a CAT scan. Detectives were unable to interview the victim.
Detectives were able to view the incident on nearby security cameras. The video shows three males approaching the victim. At one point one of the males produce a knife while the other two are going thru the victim’s pockets. The victim was also assaulted.
Detectives were able to get a clear picture of the suspects. At approximately 7:45 PM, one of the suspects was located. The suspect was identified as Tracy Gillette, 50-years-old with an unknown address (homeless). Mr. Gillette was placed under arrest and charged with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Armed Robbery Armed Assault with the Intent to Rob.
At approximately 9:20 PM, detectives observed a second suspect walking on the sidewalk by the YMCA on Main Street. The male was identified as Michael Fitzgerald, 42-years-old of 9 Grove Street, Hopkinton. Mr. Fitzgerald was placed under arrest and charged with Armed Robbery.
Both men will be arraigned today at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
Investigators continue to search for the third suspect.
