Worcester, MA (April 5, 2017) - On Tuesday, April 04, 2017 at approximately 8:46 PM, a Worcester Police officer was in the area of Elizabeth Street in response to a reported parking violation. While out of his vehicle issuing a parking violation to a vehicle, the officer observed a gray Audi (MA registration 6BH964) turn onto Elizabeth Street from Belmont. The officer immediately recognized the operator as 59 year old Ossama Sageir of Worcester. The officer was aware the Sageir had numerous (15) active warrants for his arrest.
The officer approached the Audi on foot. As Sageir observed the officer approaching, he put his vehicle in reverse in an attempt to flee. The officer ran up to the vehicle and instructed Sageir to stop. While Sageir was still attempting to back up, a second vehicle pulled onto Elizabeth Street behind Sageir. Sageir then immediately put his vehicle into drive, accelerating towards the officer. The officer was unable to get out of the path of Sageir, who proceeded to run over the officer’s foot.
Sageir continued down Elizabeth Street towards Elliot at a high rate of speed. The officer ran back to his cruiser and attempted to catch up to Sageir, but lost sight of him on Elliot Street. Several minutes later, a second officer observed Sageir operating his Audi at a high rate of speed on Mulberry Street, getting onto 290 heading West. The officer attempted to stop Sageir, but Sageir refused to stop, driving at a high rate of speed on the highway. At this time, the decision was made to discontinue the pursuit due to the hazard posed to the public from Sageir’s reckless driving as well as the weather and traffic conditions at the time.
A short while later, Worcester Police were notified by State Police that Sageir’s Audi had just sideswiped a vehicle on 290 as he was driving erratically at a high rate of speed in the area of College Square. Sageir fled the scene of that accident without stopping as well.
A short while later, Worcester Police were notified that Chicopee police had observed Sageir’s vehicle in Chicopee and attempted to stop him. He fled without stopping, leading Chicopee police on a car chase. Chicopee police were unable to stop Sageir and lost sight of his vehicle.
At this time, police are still looking to apprehend Sageir.
