Worcester, MA (December 13, 2011) - On Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at approximately 7:52 AM Worcester Police responded to 170 Apricot Street, South High School, for a report of two students seen carrying weapons. Upon police arrival they met with school officials; they were informed that the school administration received information that two students were seen walking towards school. one was holding a machete while the other was in possession of a handgun.
School officials locked the school down and conducted a search of all student lockers as well as the premises. As a result of the search, there were six knives discovered in six different lockers which belong to students. The search did not produce the machete or the alleged firearm.
The identities of the two males with the weapons have yet to be made. The school was locked down from approximately 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
The students who were in possession of the knives in their lockers will be disciplined administratively. Police continue to work with school officials to identify the possible suspects. Officials have interviewed the witness who initially informed school authorities.
This investigation is ongoing with the Worcester Police School Liaison office along with the South High School administration.
There will be no new additional information released at this time.
