Worcester, MA (June 15, 2013) - On Friday, June 14, 2013, at approximately 11:35 PM, Worcester Police responded to 16 Lamar Avenue for a request to check on the welfare of a person who resides there. Upon police arrival they met with a woman who was concerned for her friend. The woman informed the officers that she was worried because she had not heard from her friend.
Police checked the exterior of the home and discovered a side door unlocked. The officers knocked on the door and received no answer. There were two vehicles in the driveway, lights on inside the home and evidence to suggest that the woman should be in the home.
Police announced their presence and entered the home. Once inside they observed a male and female victim on the floor, both deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. At this time the Worcester Police Detective Bureau and the Crime Scene Unit were called in. Investigators sealed off the scene and processed evidence.
Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears that this is a murder/suicide. The two were in a dating relationship for some time. The female victim is 47 years old while the male is 42 years old.
The names of the victims will not be released at this time until all proper notifications have been made to family members.
This investigation remains active. This is the 3rd homicide in the city this year.
