Worcester, MA (May 9, 2017) – On Tuesday May 9, 2017 at 8:15 PM, Worcester Police responded to the intersection of Belmont St and Skyline Drive for a report of a serious, head-on collision between a Chevy sedan and Nissan SUV. Members of the Operations Division found one unresponsive male, later identified as a nineteen-year old from Shrewsbury, on the ground near the vehicles, and one unresponsive male, later identified as a twenty-one year old from Oxford, inside the Chevy. A twenty-year old Shrewsbury man had been in the Chevy during the accident, but was on his feet outside the vehicle when officers arrived.
The operator of the Nissan, a forty-seven year old Worcester man, was alert and conscious following the accident. Both vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Chevy Malibu was traveling west on Belmont Street. The 2001 Nissan Xterra was traveling east on Belmont Street. The crash occurred in the westbound lane of Belmont Street at the intersection of Skyline Drive. Following the head on collision with the Nissan, the Chevy continued moving and struck an electrical box head on.
All four individuals involved in the crash were transported by ambulance to the hospital. The crash is being investigation by the Crash Reconstruction Unit.
