Worcester, MA (March 10, 2017)- On Friday, March 10, 2017 at approximately 7:50 AM, Worcester Police were dispatched to an address on Ward Street for a report of a stolen motor vehicle. Upon arrival, police met with the victim, who informed police that he had just left his 2007 Toyota Highlander running outside of his apartment for a short amount of time and it was stolen by an unknown suspect. Police gave out a description of the vehicle to other officers in the area.
At approximately 8:30 AM, a Worcester Police officer was on patrol in the area of Winthrop Street when he spotted the above vehicle drive past him. The vehicle was being operated by a male later identified as a 15 year old juvenile from Worcester. The officer was able to pull behind the vehicle and activated his overhead lights and sirens as the vehicle turned onto Fox Street from Arlington.
The operator pulled the vehicle over in the area of 79 Fox Street before the driver abruptly opened the door and bailed out of the vehicle without placing it into park. The vehicle rolled into a parked vehicle, while the driver began running north on Fox Street. The officer gave chase as the juvenile ran through back yards and over fences in the direction of Providence Street. As the suspect attempted to run across Providence Street, an assisting officer arrived and was able to place him under arrest.
The juvenile is being charged with Use of a Motor Vehicle w/out Authority, Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident, Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct.
