Pedestrian Accident

Worcester, MA (November 27, 2009) - On Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at approximately 4:43 PM members of the Worcester Police Accident reconstruction Team responded to the area of 179 Belmont Street for a car that struck 2 pedestrians. Investigators learned that two males, one 17 years of age and the other 15 years of age were walking in the crosswalk when they were struck by a 88 year old male who was operating his 2000 Chevrolet Lumina, east on Belmont Street. The operator of the vehicle then attempted to apply his brakes but instead pressed on the accelerator sending the car 77 feet up the roadway and into an embankment.

The two males were taken to a local hospital and are listed in stable condition. The operator of the vehicle was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The vehicle was towed to the police station where a complete inspection of the vehicle will be performed. The operator and his passenger were not hurt and transported home. This investigation is ongoing by the Worcester Police Traffic Division.
