Worcester, MA (March 15, 2017)- On Wednesday, March 15, 2017, members of the Neighborhood Response Team (NRT) were working in an undercover capacity in the Main South area. The officers were there to address numerous complaints that they receive with regard to open air street level drug dealing. The NRT receives the bulk of complaints during neighborhood crime watch meetings.
NRT officers set up surveillance in the area of 664 Main Street. At approximately 11:45 AM, officers observed a male, identified later as Joshua Andujar, 19-years-old of 40 Millbury Street, Worcester, complete a drug transaction to a male that was identified as Peter Santos, 37-years-old of 139 Lawrence Street, Worcester. Officers observed Mr. Santos walk through the parking lot of Compare Foods while holding the drug in his hand. Officers positioned nearby approached Mr. Santos and asked him to open his hands. A small knotted plastic baggie containing crack cocaine fell to the ground. Mr. Santos was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Class B Substance.
Mr. Andujar noticed the officers approaching Mr. Santos and took off running north on Main Street. Other NRT officers were positioned and ready to apprehend Mr. Andujar. A search of Mr. Andujar produced $50.00 and a black iPhone. Mr. Andujar was placed under arrest and charged with Distribution of Class B Substance.
At approximately 1:20 PM, a NRT officer, with the use of binoculars, called out that he observed another street level drug deal take place in front of the Odd Fellows Home located at5 674 Main Street. The officer conducting the surveillance gave nearby officers the descriptions of the dealer and the one buying. Officers first approached the person that bought the drugs. That person was identified as Santa Sanchez, 62-years-old of 1050 Main Street, Worcester. Ms. Sanchez noticed the undercover officers approaching and dropped a small plastic baggie into the snow. Officers recovered the bag and confirmed that it contained crack cocaine. Ms. Sanchez was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Class B Substance.
Officers approached the male that sold the drugs; he was identified as Jose Garcia-Colon, 58-years-old of 22 Catherine Street, Worcester. A search of Mr. Garcia-Colon produced $99.00. Mr. Garcia-Colon was charged with Trespassing and Distribution of Class B Substance (2nd or Subsequent Offense).
All four will be arraigned on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
