Worcester, MA (March 25, 2010) - On March 24, 2010 at approximately 10:00 AM Worcester Police responded to the area of 359 Burncoat Street for a pedestrian accident. Upon the officers arrival they were informed that a 55 year old Worcester resident was crossing Burncoat Street from west to east when he was struck by a vehicle traveling south on Burncoat Street. The impact forced the victim up and over the front of the car and into the windshield where he was then thrown over the roof of the car and coming to rest on the pavement.
The accident occurred just south of Fales Street; witnesses describe the victim as crossing diagonally and made it approximately 6 feet onto the roadway when he was struck.
The victim was transported to University of Massachusetts Medical Center Emergency room at 55 Lake Avenue by Worcester EMS Paramedics. The victim is in critical condition with head, right shoulder and right side injuries.
The operator of the vehicle is a 30 year old Worcester resident who was operating a 1995 Toyota Camry which was properly registered and insured.
Members of the Worcester Police Traffic Division responded and are investigating this incident. A field test was conducted on the vehicle, the immediate area was secured, photographed and measurements taken by the traffic officers. This investigation is ongoing.
