Worcester, MA (November 6, 2009) - On November 6, 2009 at approximately 12:11 AM officers from the Accident Reconstruction Team were activated to reconstruct a motor vehicle and pedestrian accident in the area of 244 Main Street. Upon the officers arrival they met with initial responding officers who stated that a Yellow Cab was traveling south on Main Street when it struck a 26 year old male Worcester resident. The pedestrian was walking in an east to west direction in a marked crosswalk when he was hit. Two males from the crowd began to shake the cab and act unruly, the driver, fearing for his safety drove off and stopped in front of City Hall and contacted his dispatcher who then called the police.
The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor back and knee pain. He was released later in the morning. According to witnesses the cab was traveling at a low rate of speed, there was no damage to this vehicle. The cab was responding to a pick up call in the immediate area and was looking for his fare when the accident occurred.
The driver, Mr. Afrifa Mensah has an active license and was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
